Learn more about this site

The list of resources below is designed to help you research your site. For a more detailed, printable version, take a look at our guide, Resources for Researching Your Site.

  • For a huge range of information in one map: the OASIS map. Find nearby stewardship groups, CSOs, public waterfront access points, wetlands, and almost any other kind of publicly available data about your site you can imagine.

  • Find environmental information from government agencies:
    • EPA's Envirofacts map. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the federal agency charged with protecting the environment of the United States. Envirofacts is their master database/map of places that are subject to environmental regulations or of environmental interest. It includes some information from state databases, in addition to federal databases.
    • EPA's MyEnvironment. A snapshot of environmental conditions at your site.
    • DECinfo Locator. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is the agency charged with protecting the environment in the state of New York. DECinfo Locator is a map that links out to "documents and public data pertaining to the environmental quality of specific sites in New York State."

  • Visualize this site's past and present:

  • Get land use information:
    • Living Lots. Find a vacant lot near this site and learn how to turn it into a gathering place for the local community- or see who already has!
    • NY Commons. Find city-owned land near your site, and learn how it can be used, what projects are underway, and how you can advocate for the changes you want to see.
    • Urban Reviewer map. Decades ago, city officials demolished large parts of the city in order to improve them, and they called this process "Urban Renewal." But they didn't always consult the people who lived there, and they didn't always rebuild neighborhoods after they destroyed them. Find urban renewal projects near this site and see what happened to them- or share your story about it.
